Ak-Kaya Mountain
(The White Rock) is a picturesque natural monument located in the distance from the
sea resorts of Crimea (more than 60 km to the nearest), not far from the city
of Belogorsk, to which it also gave the name.
The height of
Ak-Kai is 325 meters above sea level. Having a gently sloping northern slope,
in the south the White Rock ends in a steep cliff with a height of 100 meters.
The composition of the rock is white limestone, which gives the mountain its
unusual color. Ak-Kaya is not
only a natural, but also an archaeological site. Here were found many sites of
ancient people, the remains of prehistoric animals, recently a large Scythian
hillfort was discovered near the mountain.

Near Ak-Kai, on
the outskirts of the village of Vishennoye, excavations of the ancient Scythian
hillfort are under way. The fortress occupied 10 hectares and had unusually
powerful fortifications. There are suggestions that there was a Scythian
capital here, later moved to Naples Scythian. If you are interested in history,
you can now examine the individual excavated sites of the fortress.

If you are going
to visit Ak-Kai, pay attention to the tips given below:
1. At the
mountain, and even more so, there is no shadow on it, so it would be better to
take headgear to protect yourself from the sun.
2. Bring water.
You probably want to drink, but there is nowhere to buy water on the White
Rock.
3. If you
initially do not plan a walking tour for at least a day, it's better to go by
your car, or use UAZ, where local tourists carry the mountain. So
you look more, and you'll get tired less.
