Mount Roman-Kosh

Roman-Kosh - the highest point of the Crimean Mountains, located at an altitude of 1545 meters above sea level. It is interesting that for a long time Demerdzhi was considered the highest mountain, but after accurate measurements it turned out that it is much inferior to Roman-Kosh.
Roman Kosh

There are two versions of the origin of the name "Roman-Kosh". The first is more poetic: the name has Indo-Aryan roots and means upper halt or upper rest. The second, in our opinion, is more realistic, that the name has a Crimean-Tatar origin and means a Romanian camp or forest pasture of shepherds.

The top Roman-Kosh is situated on Babugan-yail near Hurzuf, opposite Ayu-Dag mountain (recall that yayla is a vast and relatively flat plateau typical for the Crimean mountains).
Yaila and, accordingly, Roman-Kosh enter the territory of the Crimean nature reserve and pass to them is prohibited. But, as you probably know, in the Crimea "passage forbidden" usually means that the visit is paid. You will have to pay a forester who caught you or a huntsman, sometimes even give out some papers confirming payment. Climbing the mountain along the easiest route from the village of Partizanovka is not something extreme - it's a normal walking tour, complicated by steep ascent. The truth will take this walk from an unprepared tourist almost all day. Only on the ascent will take 5-6 hours.

Of course, the first thing think "What to see?" On one or another mountain - these are the kinds that open from it. But they still need to reach. Until you reach a height of approximately 1000 meters above sea level, you will observe mainly the forest around you.

Forest glades will be replaced by meadows, on which, if lucky, you will be able to see roe deer and deer, as well as one bear-). From here Bear Mountain (Ayu-Dag) does not look as impressive as near.

Having risen even higher, you can look from the side to the Gazebo of winds, that on Shagan-Kay.

And, finally, having overcome a sharp rise, you will go to Babugan-yaila.

There are several vertices on the plateau that differ little in height; therefore, be guided by the cross, it exists only on Roman-Koshe.

By the way, standing on Roman-Kosh does not at all feel that you are on the highest point of Crimea, because there are several peaks near almost the same height, and the peaks of neighboring mountains are not much inferior.

How to get to Roman-Kosh
If you rest on the South Coast, the climb to Roman-Kosh will most conveniently be carried out from the village of Partizanskoye or from the village of Krasnokamenka. Both settlements are near (almost opposite) Gurzuf, and Krasnokamenka is located on the South Coast Highway, so it is difficult to miss it. To get to Partizanskoye it is necessary to turn off the South Coast highway in the opposite direction from the sea, at the intersection located in a pair of km. South-west (ie, in the direction of Yalta) Krasnokamenka.
From Partizanskiy several forest roads divergent, the one you need first leads you down a little and is blocked by a barrier with the inscription "Reserve".
If you decide to start lifting from Krasnokamenka, then after you are in it you will need to climb up an abandoned quarry, then move along the road past the pine along the red marks. The tags are not present at all forks, so we return you to the advice on the route or conductor.
